Take the Scenic Route

Image
Usually when J and I walk to the grocery store, we always take the path along the roads, but there's actually another path that follows along the canal in the same direction which is the same distance.  There's joggers, bikes, and strollers on this path often, so we don't take that path when we have our grocery trolley. But today, I only had one bag with me and decided to take the scenic route. And it paid off!

Planning Our Next Great Adventure

Today we planned a trip to Rome.  Pedro had said he wanted to take me to Italy this summer, but I wasn't sure we'd be able to plan everything so fast.  I would randomly search flights and tours, not sure how or when we'd travel, but this morning it hit me. I'm not sure how long I was awake, but when Pedro woke up, I had it all figured out. It went something like this:

Power Fail

I have told most of my fellow Floridians that it is super windy here. Like the type of wind that would cancel school back home, yet the Scottish take it in stride. Luckily, unlike Florida, the powerlines here are mostly underground, so we never lose power during the storms.  This weekend, however, when Pedro went to turn on the lights, it tripped the breaker.  It was late, so we were in total darkness too. All the sockets in the house were still working, but none of the light switches. We go downstairs, where our breaker is kept in a cabinet under a table by the front door, to see the damage. We thought it'd be a simple flip of the switch, and we'd be back to light. Silly Americans!

Our 24-Hour Tour

Image
We had our first visitors from The States this week.  A friend from high school/college is doing a UK tour with a stop in Glasgow.  The pressure was on to show them what we could and get the most out of their time.  Some sites Pedro and I hadn't even been too yet, and will probably have to go back for more visiting time.  They went to People's Palace (which was a bit far for us, but now on our visit list) and then I met up with them at the Necropolis. It was a beautiful day, 50's and no rainy skies. I know this is one of Pedro's favorite things, finding the a high spot to look out over the city, and it was a good day for it. Bonus, everything was in bloom, which meant daffodils and cherry blossoms!

Things you learn on a farm

Image
Pedro's time on the farm has been trying, but still a very great learning experience.  I get pictures of lambs he's saved from the cold, calls about surgeries he's done, and, of course, messages that he's tired and ready to come home.  Knowing that he's working on the farm during lambing season, I thought the notification I got this morning was a mistake. Amazon was telling me that "Uddermint for Udder Health" was shipping to me and his mom.  I looked at the product, something that "soothes and clears" udders, and thought Pedro must have ordered this for the farm and accidentally sent it to us by mistake.

A day on the town

Glasgow's Artists

It wasn't until visiting the market in Edinburgh that I realized how much I missed browsing art and handmade crafts.  I hardly ever buy anything, but I enjoy looking at everything; it's like an interactive museum where you can buy the art on display.  In my hometown, there's a farmer's market every Saturday from fall through spring, called the Green Market.  It's right along the waterfront with music, food, and sometimes antiques. If we managed to wake up early enough, my mom and I would go down to the Green Market, find our favorite snacks (usually mini apple cider donuts and smoothies) and then browse through the tents of antiques.  I felt like there was always this anticipation of the possibility of finding something special and unique.  If you're lucky, it's good quality too.  My treasured find is a thumb ring that I still wear today, ten years later.
